Good afternoon everyone.

It was lovely to see all the children back in school and ready to learn on Wednesday.

For writing this week the children listened to a picture book about a haunted house. They had to listen for all the different creatures the haunted house contained and for any wow descriptive words they could use in their own writing. After we had a discussion about this the children then went off to write their own spooky haunted house stories. These have been photocopied and I will be using them to assess each child's writing. This will enable Mrs Greig and I to set individual targets for each child to work on.

Mrs Greig and I started work on the addition topic in maths this week. The children have started this topic by either consolidating their knowledge of number bonds to 10 or 20. They should continue to practise their number  bonds at home as their knowledge of these will support them to solve addition problems with larger numbers. For example, 3 + 2= 5 so 30 + 20 =50.

On Wednesday the children completed their Christmas card design. They worked extremely hard on this and did a super job. The picture has been sent home and an email has been sent out by the school. The email tells you how you can order Christmas cards and other Christmas items with your child's design on it. The original design needs to be returned on Monday so it can be sent away to the company.

Your child may have already informed you that I have not been in school yesterday or today. I have an appointment for an operation on my finger on the 12th November and have been instructed by the hospital that I need to distance (2 metres) for two weeks before this date. As a result, they have said I must work from home as it is too difficult to distance from the class. I will still be planning all the class lessons for Wednesday to Friday. I will also be working on  school developments and resources/teaching approaches I can use in class.

I will miss the boys and girls but will keep up to date with what they are doing through Seesaw.  I look forward to seeing them all in person from the 18th November.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson
