Good afternoon,
Well, the absolute highlight of this week has to have been the opening of the field at lunch time. What a buzz there was in the classroom when they heard the news! Fingers crossed, the weather will remain kind and the children can have lots of opportunities to spend their lunch times playing there.
In numeracy the children were learning about equivalent fractions to finish off their fractions topic. I am very pleased with the progress they have made in their understanding of fractions. After a few assessments we will be ready to move on to our next topic, which is time.
In literacy we were learning to use apostrophes to show ownership of items and we are now looking to use apostrophes properly in our sentence and story writing. In writing this week we had a focus on making something EXCITING happen in our imaginative stories. We have been working really well on writing a beginning, a middle and an end to a story and now we are focussing on making the middle really fun and interesting to read.
In our topic this week we have been learning about inherited traits ... so if the children have been asking if you can roll your tongue or if you have attached earlobes, then that might be why! In RME we have also been learning about Christian baptism, so some of them may be asking you if they were baptised.
In art we have started to look at the work of some abstract artists, and this week we were studying the portraits of Sandra Silberzweig. The children have started to create their own portraits in this style, using line, shape and colour, and are really pleased with their efforts so far. We will post some of the finished results non Seesaw when they are completed.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Haddow
