Good afternoon everyone
What a busy and hard working week we have had in P1/2.
The introduction of ‘Drawing club’ was a real highlight for us all this week.  We read the story ‘The Hairy Toe’ by Daniel Postgate before creating, drawing and sharing our fabulous pictures of what we thought the monster in the story might eat for his dinner. Drawing is a powerful precursor to writing and 'Drawing Club' is an innovation by the educationalist Greg Bottrill which provides the children the opportunities to hold their pencil correctly, to create, to collaborate, to communicate and to gain confidence in the writing process through an exciting, engaging and motivating way.
In Writing, the P2’s used their 'Drawing Club' pictures as a stimulus to create a menu, using adjectives to describe the Monster's disgusting meals they had created!

In Numeracy and Mathematics we have been exploring symmetry. We learned how to identify and explain why a picture is symmetrical/non-symmetrical, completed and created pictures to make them symmetrical.  The P2’s also learned how to use mirrors to identify lines of symmetry in pictures and shapes.
In Literacy, the P2’s continue to develop their phonics and reading skills. This week we learned to read, spell and write words with the ‘th’ sound.  We also continued to practise identifying the correct missing word to complete a sentence, using the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ as a stimulus.

In Health and Wellbeing we continued our learning about how we can keep our bodies healthy and learned all about the important benefits of eating healthily. We learned about the 5 different food groups including fruits and vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins, dairy and fats. After discussing the different types of food that belong to each group, the P2’s created their own Eat-well plate by sorting a variety of different foods into the correct food group.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
