P6 Update

Yet another good week in P6.

The term is really flying by and the children are really enjoying their learning. I think that the area of the curriculum that engaged the children most this week was Science. Our basket designs for the 'Squashed Tomato Challenge' are almost finished and children are finding that resources to finish their model are becoming scarce . This has required a good bit of problem-solving, rebuilding, sharing, discussion and an increased use of their negotiating skills.

In Digital Literacy, we were trying to capture and edit that perfect photograph that would encourage deeper thinking. The children were to select one of their photos that would engage the viewer, use this to act as a story starter, then write a few lines of their story. All I can say is that it looks like we might have an outbreak of Killer Snail’s on the loose at Canmore!

In Numeracy, we were calculating multiples of x10, x100 and x1000. In Literacy, we did our best work in comprehension; listening skills are definitely improving.

In RME, we started to look at how Buddhist's use prayer flags to pass on messages of goodwill around the world. It was lovely to hear some of the messages that the class came up with.

We have finished the week with a discussion and planning activity to see how we can repurpose our outdoor classroom area at the side of the school – some amazing ideas are starting to form.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed an extended lunch break for winning 'Class of the Week' last week. It was lovely to see the class enjoying the reward for their efforts.

It was also lovely to meet with many of you during the first of our Parent Contact sessions on Wednesday.  I look forward to meeting with more of you next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Mr Morgan.
