Welcome to the class news for P6b. Term 1 has flown by and we are already a week into Term 2! It is amazing how quickly the time has gone. The autumn term was full of hard work as well as activities to help us settle back into school after the lovely hot summer.

Our main focus in Literacy last term was to look at imaginative writing. Our story writing has progressed well and the class are really starting to see the benefits of this in their writing. When asked about their best piece of work from last term, many proudly chose one of their imaginative stories. Our focus on literacy skills will continue into the upcoming term with spelling and presentation being more to the fore.

During term 1 we read Holes by Louis Sachar as our class novel and used it to compare and contrast written media to digital media by watching the movie. This terms novel is ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio. Once again, we are able to use the book and movie to compare, contrast and improve our comprehension skills.

In numeracy last term we covered place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication, where in the latter, we started to look at multiplication by a double digit number. This term we will be covering division and fractions.

In other areas of the curriculum, we have enjoyed developing our skills in Digital Literacy by using advanced features of presentation software. For term 2 we will be looking at Coding to develop our programming skills and photography to learn how to take, edit and manipulate images.

In Science, last term we looked at the awful current problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. I think that all of us were shocked to discover the damage we are doing to our planet!  This term we are looking at developing our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills by tackling some practical challenges that are linked to how developing countries are using technology to improve their lives.

Our Scottish Citizenship Social Studies topic will continue for another few weeks yet and we will be looking at the history of voting, the process of voting and how parliament works.

Unfortunately, we are still awaiting clearance to use the class learning journal app Seesaw, however, in the meantime, the class have still been busy gathering evidence of their learning and we will share all our work with you as soon as we can.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Mr. Morgan and P6b.
