A wonderful week of exciting learning opportunities for P6/7.

I hope your child has enjoyed learning about the Japanese writing system including the symbols used in hiragana which we took time to recreate using black paint and scroll paper.

In our topic  we have learned about Earthquakes particularly, the great Kanto Earthquake of Japan which is the worst recorded in Japanese modern history.
In our STEAM lessons we created Shake Tables and worked collaboratively to design and build model structures that would survive a quake!

We also learned about  the strongest ever recorded earthquake in Japan, in March 2011, which triggered a massive tsunami along the Pacific Coast. We will be linking this learning to researching Tsunami next week and our science lesson will be on the great flood.

In our number work we have improved our work with decimals and begun a math topic on time. We have focused on the 7 times table and I can see steady progress from all pupils especially Kyle Davidson who correctly answered 40 questions in a minute! beating his personal best score by 3 questions! Well done everyone - keep up the practise! next week we will look at the 8 x table.

In writing we have been upleveling and editing our work. We will be looking at diary writing next week and exploring character feelings and emotions.

In gym we explored shotputt and got familiar with the hold and push of the sport.  Our pupils also complete a daily mile.

This Friday coming we will be dressing down for Jeans for Genes day so please look out for the information coming from P5 inviting everyone to wear a piece of denim to support awareness for the cause.

Congratulations to Callum & Lily for winning the social target awards this week!

Looking forward to Monday,
Mrs Watt.
