Good afternoon,
Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you for the excellent start we have made to our homework grid, weekly spelling and reading tasks. Lots of you have been busy completing the jobs at home and posting videos, pictures and examples on Seesaw. It is so important that pupils get that extra reinforcement and practice at home to help support their work in class.

This term we are looking at weekly spelling sounds together as a whole class. This allows us to generate a class list and our own personal word list  based on the examples that are shown on Seesaw. This means that children get to stretch and challenge themselves beyond the specific spelling list given and this allows pupils to generate more words that have the same pattern/rule. This week we created lots of new words for the ck sound. Some pupils even transferred this skill into reading and found examples of this sound during their reading time. We would encourage this practice at home to allow pupils to become familar with the wider vocabulary list that links to the spelling sound/pattern.

In literacy, we have continued our focus on character descriptions, Miss Graham has seen progress already with pupils trying to self assess and check for the success criteria we created together for every writing piece. This includes, capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, neat handwriting and reading through to make sure our sentences sound okay. This is something we will continue to work on across the year but it has been so good to see pupils read over and check their own work for this success criteria already! Well done Primary 3 and 4. Our place value confidence has also been impressing Miss Graham this week, check out Seesaw for examples of our work!

In topic, this week we learned a little bit more about the story of King Canmore making Dunfermline a city. We met a new historic character Margaret and had fun in drama thinking about her character and her wedding to Malcolm. We have started to make a map for our classroom which we have been adding to as we learn new details about Dunfermline. Please check Seesaw to see this development.

Have a great weekend,
Miss Graham
