Good afternoon,
The highlight this week was learning about Advent and creating our kindness advent. We decorated envelopes and put an act of kindness in each envelope for each day of advent. Our first kindness challenge was to pass on a smile to everyone. We are looking forward to showing kindness to everyone this Advent. Our classroom is looking Christmassy with our paper chain decorations. We have also had another visitor this week who arrived on Wednesday, Tinsel the Elf who has come to visit our class and to report back to Santa on all the wonderful work we are doing.
In Literacy our Flat Stanley Novel this week was 'Flat Stanley and The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery by Jeff Brown. This week we have been learning to sequence. We read the first chapter of the book and discussed the beginning, the middle and the end of the story. We then drew a picture and wrote a sentence for each part of the story.
In Phonics, we have been learning to read and write the 'ss’ and ‘zz’ sound. We also continued learning to spell some of our common words by making the words with Lego and practised writing them.
On Seesaw you will find a homework activity for the ‘zz' and ‘ss’ sound. Please complete the 'zz’ and ‘ss’ page this week in your phonics homework booklet. Reading books went home on Wednesday, please return on Monday. This week for the topic homework your child is to continue to work on their presentation of their chosen country. This week your child is to research homes and interesting facts about your chosen country.
In Numeracy, we continued our learning on addition. we have been learning to mentally add to 20 using our counting on strategy and our fingers to help. We have been practising by doing the Top Marks Daily 10 game. We also completed are assessment on adding to 20.
It was lovely to see everyone dressed in their tartan on Tuesday and we celebrated St Andrews day with some Ceilidh dancing.
We are busy making our Christmas craft and look forward to surprising with you next Friday with our creation for sale.
