Good afternoon,

The highlight this week was sharing the book The Biggest Story by Sarah Coyle from the Read, Write Count Primary 2 bags produced by the Scottish Book Trust in conjunction with Education Scotland and the Scottish Government. The bags are a gift for every Primary 2 child in Scotland in celebration of Book Week Scotland. The children were very excited to receive their bags and are looking forward to sharing the stories and games with you.

This week Tommy Traveller (our Teddy visitor) asked us to learn all about Australia. We discussed different food, clothing, weather/climate, and important places of interest. We also had a taste of vegemite on crackers. We made posters about Australia to share what we have learned with Tommy.

This week in discovery learning there has been lots of excitement around making paper aeroplanes. The children have been trying different designs of planes to see how far they can fly and if they can knock down towers of bricks. There has been lots of sorting in the construction area-sorting different colours and shapes. In the craft area there has been lots of making including some laptops with all the buttons.

In Literacy our Flat Stanley Novel this week is 'Flat Stanley The Australian Boomerang Bonanza’ by Jeff Brown. This week we have been continuing our learning on prediction. Arthur (Flat Stanley’s brother) won a competition to Australia, and he could take one person with him. We were predicting who Arthur would take to Australia.

In Phonics, we have been learning to read and write the 'ff’ sound. On Seesaw you will find a homework activity for the ‘ff' sound. Please complete the 'ff’ page this week in your phonics homework booklet. Reading books went home on Wednesday along with two letters, a letter explaining the topic homework task and a letter with your child’s Sumdog login details. This week for the topic homework your child is to choose a country they would like to find out more about and research the weather and climate for their chosen country.

In Numeracy, we continued our learning on addition. we have been learning all the addition facts for 16,17,18, and 19.  We have been using Numicon to help us.

The children very much enjoyed taking part in Children in Need Day. They all entered the competition to design a new bandana for Pudsey Bear.

Special plea, can you make sure that your child's lunch choice has been choosen, Thank you.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Elvin
