Good afternoon,

It’s lovely to be back at school for Term 2.

A highlight from this week was our Halloween Science activity – Making a witches potion.  We were learning about dissolving and what happens when we mix chemicals together. We learned that the food colouring mixed with the vinegar changed the colour of the vinegar and that the baking soda when dissolved into the vinegar caused a reaction that made it foam up out the cup. We also learned that the sparkles we added did not dissolve.

In Literacy we read ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. We discussed the main part of the story and then we drew a picture and wrote sentences to explain the main part of the story.

In Writing, we are learning to use adjectives to make our writing more exciting. We drew a picture of a haunted house and wrote sentences to describe who was inside our house.

In Phonics, we have been learning to read and write the 'ng’ sound. On Seesaw you will find a homework activity for the ‘ng’ sound. Please complete the 'ng’ page this week in your phonics homework booklet.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to add to 20. We have been adding a single digit to a teens number for example 14 + 2 and learning to add two single digits that bridge 10 for example 9 + 5. We have been using tens frames and tens and ones boards with our concrete materials to help us.

Next Thursday 4th November is Outdoor Classroom Day so we will be taking part in an outdoor learning session. Please can you make sure your child is wearing warm PE clothes and brings a waterproof jacket, welly boots and waterproof trousers if they have them.

For Term two, Reading books will be sent home on Wednesdays to be returned on Monday. PE days are the same Tuesday and Thursday, please ensure that your children come in warm PE kit as we will still be going outside for PE sessions as weather allows but please also send indoor gym shoes for inclement weather.

It was great to see everyone dressed up in their Halloween costumes and we all had a great time at our Halloween party.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your Halloween celebrations!
