Good afternoon,

A highlight from this week was learning to create a simple circuit with a light and bulb. All the children got an experience of connecting the battery pack with the cables to the light bulb. We talked about how the circuit had to connect in a continuous loop to make the light turn on. We also put a switch into our electric circuit, and we talked about how the switch breaks the continuous loop in the circuit to turn the light off.

In Literacy we read ‘Silly Billy’ by Anthony Browne. Billy is a boy who has lots of worries and his Grandma gave him worry dolls to help him. We talk about how we all have worries and what we can do to help if we feel worried. In writing, we wrote sentences about a time we have felt worried and how we solved it.

In Phonics, we have been learning to read and write the 'th’ sound. On Seesaw you will find a homework activity for the 'th’ sound. Please complete the 'th’ page this week in your phonics homework booklet.

In Numeracy, we have been learning that a number is made up of tens and ones. We have been making the number with concrete materials and writing the expand number sentence, for example 13=10+3. We have also been learning to estimate where a number is placed on an empty number line.

I know it’s early to be thinking about Christmas, but this week we have designed a Christmas Card as it will take some time for these to be sent away and printed. The card template has been sent home today in a poly pocket. If you would like to order the instructions are on the sheet. Please return all designs to school by Wednesday 6th October.

Have a lovely weekend!
