Good afternoon,

This week we read ‘Our Class is a family by Shannon Olsen’. We listened to the story and discussed the main idea of the story. We thought that the main idea was about kindness, respect, resilience, helping each other and working as a team. We drew a picture and wrote a sentence to share what the story is about.

In phonics we have been learning to read and write the 'sh' sound. I hope you all received your phonic homework booklet along with your reading book this week. On Seesaw you will find an activity for the 'sh' sound. Please complete the 'sh' page this week in your phonics homework booklet. Each week I will upload an activity with the sound of the week. Please complete the same sound in your phonics homework booklet and upload a picture on to the activity.

In Science, we were learning about what different objects are made from. We had a hunt round the classroom to find objects in our class made from wood, plastic, paper, glass, and metal. We learned that wood and paper come from trees, glass is made from fine sand and metal is made from rocks.

A highlight from this week was our science experiment to find out which material would be suitable to make an umbrella for the gingerbread man. We looked at the materials and discussed the properties of the materials. We talked about the words transparent, absorbent, and waterproof. We found that the kitchen roll was too absorbent but the plastic bag was strong and waterproof so would make the best material.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to order numbers to 20, find one more and one less and count in 2’s. We have been consolidating our number to 20 skills including writing numbers in sequence forward and back, as well as practicing our number formation. We are trying hard to write our numbers the correct way round.

We all very much enjoyed designing a pair of Jeans for a Paw Petrol character for the ‘Jeans for Genes Day' competition. We also had a great day wearing our denim.

We are looking forward to starting our outdoor learning sessions on Friday afternoons. I have uploaded an information letter onto Seesaw. Please can you make sure your child comes to school in outdoor clothing, not school uniform and brings wellies, waterproof jacket, and waterproof trousers (if they have them).

Thank you to all parents who have ensured that lunch choices have been completed. There are still a few parents who are not making lunch choices, if you have any problems getting on to the system, please contact the school office.

Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Elvin
