Good afternoon,

In Literacy we have been continuing our learning about alphabetical order and tried some tricky words that all started with the same letter. We had to look at the second letter in each word. We had to use our alphabetical knowledge to help us find a variety of words in the dictionary.

In Writing this week we all wrote a recount of our outdoor learning day. We drew pictures of the different activities we enjoyed and then wrote sentences using good adjectives to describe our day. We all very much enjoyed our outdoor learning day and are very excited that we have completed our Natural connections Chart and are looking forward to receiving our Bronze certificate.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about fractions. We made a pizza with our favourite topings. We had to share the paper plate pizza equally with a partner and then choose two toppings to go on each quarter of the pizza. The children were able to consolidate their learning of a half and develop their understanding of a quarter. The children also had the opportunity to explore different shapes. We found that we could only half our triangle but our circle, square and rectangle would divide equally into halves, quarters and even eighths. We all made fraction posters with our paper shapes.

In our Project work this week we have been learning about the history of farming. We looked at different pictures from now and in the past. We discussed with a partner what was in the pictures and if we thought it was now or in the past. We then watched a short clip of farmers harvesting potatoes in scotland in the 1940's. We discussed the diffrerences that not having special harvesting machines make. The children thought it must have been hard work to be a potato picker. We talked about how in the past children would go and help with the potato picking in the October holidays. Some of the children thought they would have enjoyed potato picking but others didn't agree.

Thank you for all your support in ensuring that the children always return their reading books on Fridays and that they have their outdoor learning clothes.

Have a lovely long weekend,
Mrs Elvin
