Good afternoon everyone,

We have all had a great first full week at school. The children have listened well and worked hard on all activities. This week our social target was, 'I can come to school ready to learn' and it has been very difficult to choose just one child as all of your children have been trying their best. Well done to Anna Fenwick, our social target winner!

We have been starting our day with discovery learning. The children have the opportunity to make pictures, explore the sand, play maths and literacy games, create with the construction materials, read a book in the class library, use the computers and take part in role play in our estate agents.

In Health and Wellbeing, we read the story of The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. We discussed all of the different colours and how that colour makes the monster feel. Then we coloured in our own monster to show the colour we were feeling. We also enjoyed the story, The Jar of Happiness and looked at what makes us feel happy. We have been sharing how we feel each morning.

We have been learning that every child has rights and we discussed that to ensure everybody rights, we need to have a class charter. We decided as a class that we should all be gentle, kind, share, use quiet voices, use manners and tidy up. We all made a poster of our class charter.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about subtraction. We discussed the different words we can use to describe subtraction, for example take away, less, fewer, minus. We have also been practising counting forward and back and finding the number before and after. Next week we will be learning to subtract using the ‘counting back’ strategy.

In Writing, we discussed all of the special people in our families and what we like to do together. We drew a picture of our family and wrote a sentence about our family.

Starting from next week we will be asking all children to come to school on gym days dressed for gym. P2 gym days are Tuesday and Thursday so please send your child to school wearing their outdoor gym kit. We are also reminding children that class water bottles should be filled with plain water.

Seesaw accounts has been organised by Mrs McIntosh and your child will get a copy of their code so that we can start sharing their learning with you as of next week.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Elvin.
