It has been a very busy week in our class.
In PE we started our block of Gymnastics with balances and counter balances. The children really enjoyed exploring different ways to use their bodies to balance and a lot of fun was had during this activity.
We introduced our fractions topic in Maths and used paper plates to create a variety of fractions.  We were looking specifically at whole as a concept and parts of a whole ( fraction ).  This really helped to aid our understanding of fractions.  We now know the two parts of a fraction called numerator and denominator and we looked at the three different types of fractions you get namely proper, improper and mixed numbers.
In Writing we wrote some wonderful mood poems. We used our two favourtie colours to create two poems. The focus was on including our feelings in our writing and using a variety of imaginative language to describe.  There are some excellent poems.
In Art we completed our fantastic Mixed Media Sun/Moon art.  These are imaginative/detailled and the bright colours really show off the artworks. Some children have started an artwork inspired by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian who is well know for his use of primary colours and black lines.
Everyone is showing great enthusiasm in learning their chosen Scottish poem at home. There are two poems to choose from: "Cuddle Doon" by Alexander Anderson and "The Circus" by J K Anand. Mrs Wehmeyer have seen some recordings from a few children and they are absolutely fantastic.  Just remember to try your best and enjoy practicing your poem in front of a mirror and your family..
We created a word association picture in our project jotters about our new Science topic about Sound.  We looked at an informative powerpoint showing  the inside of an ear and acquired lots of new facts. The three little bones in the ear that transmit vibrations from our eardrums are called hammer, anvil and stirrup.  It was interesting to learn that the ear is made up primarily of cartilage covered by skin.
Just another little reminder that gym days are now on a Monday and Thursday and both slots are indoors.
Our class novel is "Goldfish Boy" by Lisa Thompson. It is a lovely book about finding friendships. This book will be used to do a variety of Literacy tasks this term.,
Our Social Target Winner of the Week is Isla C.  Isla has returned to school with a positive mindset.
We wish everyone a restful weekend!
