It has been a great week in Primary 5A.
We have been working hard on maintaining our focus on our own work and completing work to a consistent high standard. Everybody is giving their best effort.

A huge highlight was the completion of our Zentangle Porthole Sea Creature artworks.  Zentangling is an art form where you take a basic shape, divide it into sections and then fill the sections with a pattern.  The complexity of the pattern is up to you.  It is very relaxing because as you are drawing the patterns the process allows you to zone out, thus the ‘zen’ part of zentangle.  You can also make up your own shapes and patterns. We created our animals in black Zentangle patterns and then added more colour into the background to make our sea creatures pop. We are very proud of our efforts.

In Number work we worked together on wipeboards to explain rounding to ten. We looked at all the different steps we can use to help us find the answer. Everyone really enjoyed this activity and it has led to a much better understanding of this concept.

There has been a big focus on the use of descriptive language techniques specifically, personification. Describing objects as if they are people is a way of making sentences more exciting. This is called personification. It makes our writing much more interesting to the reader.
We used personification, alliteration, similes and onomatopoeia in our shape poems. We used the outline of a sea creature and used different fonts to write out our poem. Lots of fantastic writing happening in Primary 5A!

We are really getting excited about our class novel, "Lampie". We have started building up a character description of the main character in the story. We are alll wondering who or what "the monster" is.

In P.E we took part in two Benchball games. Lots of teamwork and sportsmanship was on show. Well done everyone!

In Spanish we looked at the months of the year and how to pronounce this correctly. We are all learning together.

We are improving our reading skills and are becoming much more confident when we need to read aloud to someone else. We are also starting to change our voices better to suit different characters.

There has been super engagement with homework tasks and that is great to see. Well done boys and girls!

Our project on Oceans is very informative and we are gaining a lot of new information about it. We started looking at the Atlantic ocean and in ICT we each had a different sea creature to research.

It was lovely to meet some parents at the "Meet The Teacher" session on Friday.  The children were very excited to share their learning environment with their parents.

Our Social Target Winner of the Week is Freya Hunter. Freya has a positive attitiude towards all her work and always shows a respectuful attitude towards everyone else. Well done Freya!

Have a brilliant weekend!
