P5/6 weekly Update

During literacy this week we conducted research into different locations that the Nowhere Emporium could visit and made comparisons between them and Dunfermline. We also began looking at how to write a persuasive piece of writing by discussing the importance of writing an introduction that outlines what you are going to be writing about and identified persuasive language for the pupils to use within their writing.

In mathematics we looked at a new written strategy for multiplying large numbers called the grid method. Pupils were focused on partitioning numbers to multiply the different components separately. Our mental maths work also continued to be focused around multiplication to strengthen timestable recall to increase their speed and accuracy when they are multiplying.

In art we have begun preparing our crafts for Christmas Fair and have been creating a variety of baubles and small reindeer ornaments. In ICT we continued to look at hyperlinking and explored how we could use this skill to create a multiple choice quiz within power point.

We were also visited by the SSPCA who led the pupils in a variety of activities relating to looking after and caring for the animals within our environment. Pupils were also given the opportunity to take part in a coding and construction task where pupils were designing robots to travel across the classroom.

A sample of what we have been doing so far this year is now available on our class seesaw blog: https://blog.seesaw.me/canmorep56 there are a number of pictures and some short videos that we will continue to add to as the pupils become more confident in using seesaw to record evidence of their learning.

For security the password to access our seesaw blog is being sent home in a separate letter with each pupil inside their homework folder.

Another great week! Well done primary 5/6. I hope everyone has a super weekend.

Mr Gray.
