Welcome to 2024!
It has been a fantastic week of quality learning in Primary 5/6. Mrs Wehmeyer has been very impressed with the high level of engagement from all the pupils. Everyone is eager to work to the best of their ability and we look forward to many exciting lessons and tasks in term 3. What an excellent start to the year P5/6!
Everyone is busy learning a Scottish poem at home.  We look forward to the end of the month when we will be able to listen to everyone reciting these.  Remember to have some fun with it, use a prop, pull your face and use some hand gestures.  Practicing in front of the mirror is also very helpful.
This week we have really focused on improving the presentation of our work.  This means using sharp pencils, erasers to remove mistakes and rulers to draw lines. It also means working in a more organised, structured manner in our jotters and taking more pride in our work.
In Numeracy we started looking at different multiplication strategies to help us with calculations. We recognise that we really need to learn our tables to assist us with this work.  We enjoyed working in pairs on a variety of multiplication tasks.
In PE we played "One Way Basketball".  We invented this version of Basketball as a class. It is very pleasing to see the excellent teamwork taking place. Children are also now effectively moving into spaces for a pass and there is lots of red faces by the end of sessions.
For Outdoor Learning we looked at classification of plants and we gained lots of new knowledge.
We are enjoying our new topic on Bridges.  We looked at different types of bridges and used these words for spelling practice this week. We also designed a cover page for this topic in our jotters.  The children did very well in a spelling assessment this week and there has been super improvements by many pupils.  This is really wonderful to see.
In Writing we started our note taking on the iconic, Forth Road Rail Bridge.  We worked together as a class and grouped our information under six different headings.  We can now start writing a functional piece of writing on this historic bridge.
Our class novel is about a boy called Davey.  It is a wonderful book about friendship and being the kind kid in the class. It is called "Cloud Busting" by Marjorie Blackman.  We will explore a variety of themes from this book during our Health and Well-Being lessons.
We are working very hard on learning all our words for the Fife Music Festival performance at The Vine Conference Centre at the end of January.  We are very grateful to have Mrs Baxter helping us to prepare for our performance. She is just fantastic at playing the piano.
This term we will explore the art of Scottish artists.  We looked at the work of Ritchie Collins.  He uses colour very expressively in his Scottish landscapes.  The children are very excited to create their own landscapes in the style of Collins.
Our Social Target Winner of the week is Caleb Sorial.  Caleb has worked very hard on the presentation of his work and there has been an excellent improvent with his spelling.  Well done for being so positive Caleb!
We wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
