I cannot believe how quick the weeks are flying by.  It has been very pleasing to see the effort everyone is putting into their tasks.  The children are taking more pride in their work and classroom environment. Well done P5/6.  It is such a lovely, spacious area to work and learn in and the children are all making good progress.

The standard and quality of homework tasks has consistently been very high and I want to say thank you to all the children for giving their best effort with this.  Everyone is now engaging with homework tasks and it is wonderful to look at all the homework that is being uploaded.  I am also sure the children appreciate all the help they are getting from parents, grandparents and siblings. Homework should always be a fun, learning and sharing experience. The box animals that have been constructed over the last few weeks is fantastic and everyone is working very hard on completing their animal talks to share with their classmates.

We enjoyed a very peaceful writing block this week when we wrote about nature.  There was a fantastic discussion before we started and putting on some gentle piano music really helped to create a calm atmosphere to write in. The focus was on including feelings in our writing. Well done everyone!

In Number work we are looking at times tables. We did an excercise using multiplication wheels to get our brains going. We then used big, empty number templates from 2 - 9 and wrote the times tables inside these.  We did this as a carousel activity using different coloured gel pens. We are hoping to get better at quicker recall of times tables to assist us with multiplication and division calculations.

Well done to everyone on completing their reading comprehension assessment.  It was really good to see the use of correct punctuation and more detailed answers.

We watched a good video on extinct, vulnerable and endangered animals and we were shocked to see that there is hardly any black rhinos left on our planet.  Numbers of Giant Pandas is also very low. We realise that we all need to play our part in making sure we take care of all living things in our planet. We are also making a poster to highlight the plight of our wonderful wild animals.

We have collected a lot of organic material and we have carefully pressed them flat between sheets. We used these to make a fantastic nature creation. We worked together in groups and look forward to sharing our completed artworks with you.  We also used some of the Haikus we wrote last week to create a display piece that will form part of our Outdoor Learning work. One of the Haikus celebrated the Scottish conservationist, John Muir.

For Art we completed our Cauliflower Christmas card designs.  We look forward to sharing our designs with you and will be bringing these home today.  We made some wonderful Christmas bears with a red Zentangled love heart and used coloured pencils and pen to create our shaggy bears.  These will make fantastic Christmas cards.  I look forward to receiving your order forms back on Monday.

On Friday we dressed down in denim to support Jeans for Genes Day. Everyone enjoyed walking six laps of the playground with a buddy. Thank you to Primary 4 and Mrs Haddow for organising this fun event for all of us to enjoy.

Our Social Target Winner of the Week is Freya. Freya is always responsible and hard-working. She also knows how to keep herself and others safe. Well done Freya!

I really look forward to meeting some of you on Monday to share the progress your children is making.  It will be a very short week next week as children will not be in school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  On Friday we will take part in lots of fun activities for the McMillan Coffee Morning. Thank you to Primary 6 for organising this.

Have a restful weekend!
