We are really getting stuck into the Outdoor Learning sessions that will form part of the John Muir Award.  The weather has been glorious so being out on the field exploring our playground has been a great experience. We love the practical/artistic aspect of the John Muir Award work and it has made learning more meaningful to all.
At the start of the week we looked at a powerpoint presentation on the life of John Muir and used bulletpoints to make some notes.  We are now compiling fact files on his life. We went outside collecting different leaves and used the PlantNet app to identify the wonderful trees we have in our playground. We are so lucky to such a variety of trees from all over the world.
We used the berries, flowers and leaves we collected from the playground and from home to make inks.  A lot of fun squishing the berries into pulp, adding some salt and then extracting the juices to make our inks.  For Art we used "The Lost Words" book as inspiration to draw some acorn leaves which we are busy painting with the inks we have made.  It is a very satisfying process and our artworks have a great berry smell. Look out on Seesaw to see the completed artworks.
For Spelling we used the months of the year and broke each one down into syllables to help us with the tricky parts.
In Maths we started looking at the concept of rounding to 10. It was fun working together on dry wipe boards and coming up with some tricks to aid our understanding of this concept.  Well done to all the boys and girls for showing a "can do" attitude and really showing a great understanding of the work. We will now move onto writing numbers in words.
We have all completed our "Woods" narrative/descriptive story and have worked hard on using different figurative language techniques to make our stories more interesting to the reader. Writing time is particularly peaceful and calm in our classroom and Mrs Wehmeyer is very proud of everyone trying their very best.
In Handwriting we copied an Acorn poem in our best handwriting and included a drawing in pencil and ink of an acorn and a leaf.  Everyone took extra care with their presentation and they form a brilliant display for our classroom.
A Homewrok Grid was issued this week and there has already been fantastic homework being done by the children. Well done everyone! Thank you to parents for taking the time to sit with your children and for all the help you are giving.
It was really lovely to hear singing again and many of us were very exciting to start with choir on Thursday. We had a go at the tongue twister "Lickety Split" and then started learning a song called, "Many Shades of Blue". Choir will be every Thursday during lunch time.
A little reminder that homework is due every Thursday. Reading books will come home on a Thursday to be returned by Monday. Outdoor Learning is on Wednesdays so remember to come dressed in appropriate clothing for this.
Well done to Freya and Florence who has both been appointed as Eco Reps for our class. They confidently spoke in front of their classmates.
Our Social Target Winner of the Week is Grace.  Grace always shows polite manners towards others and she has been particularly helpful aoround the classroom.  Well done!

We wish everyone a peaceful weekend!
