It has been a very exciting week in primary 5/6 on Monday we were visited by Zoolab and the pupils were introduced to a variety of different animals including a scorpion, a cockroach, a snake and a giant snail. This led to some very interesting discussion about how the creature’s bodies and body systems were different from our own and the pupils seemed to really enjoy getting the opportunity to handle the different animals.
In mathematics we continued to revise our times table facts using maths puzzle squares and singing some different times table songs to increase our recall particularly focusing on our 7, 8 and 9 times tables. The pupils have also continued to practice their written strategies for multiplication with a focus on improving the accuracy of their layout and carrying accurately.
In literacy we prepared to apply for a pretend job at the Nowhere Emporium and the pupils considered what qualities and skills they had that would make them suited to working in a magic shop. As part of road safety week in big writing the pupils took part in a writing competition where they had to create stories that taught a lesson about the importance of road safety when you are travel to school in an active way.
In art we began creating gift tags to attach to the products that we will be selling at the Christmas fair. In ICT the pupils were creating branching stories in power point by embedding hyperlinks in text and pictures to link to other slides allowing them to create a story with multiple endings. As part of Spanish we were listening to and practicing short phrases to do with asking for information about tourist attractions.
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
