Primary 5 are in charge of Red Nose Day this year, which takes place on Friday 15th of March. We have been busy composing a letter to go home and one for each teacher, outlining our plans for the day. We have also created a presentation and Powerpoint to share at next week's Reconnector. We have assigned parts and will begin practising next week.  In Art we have started our RND posters to display around the school.

In Literacy this week we used our 'Writing Tools' skills (punctuation, uplevelling sentences) to complete our weekend news. We also practised our spelling group words and developed our handwriting by copying a short passage of writing; The Leap Year poem. In our extended writing we looked at examples of diary extracts, including those of Anne Frank, a Titanic passenger and a World War 1 soldier. We then planned and created our own diary entry for after the Battle of Bannockburn.

We completed our fraction work this week by simplifying and ordering fractions. We will revisit this next term and make links to decimals and percentages. We hope to tackle directions and compass points next in Numeracy.

We are coming to the end of our 'Wallace and Bruce' topic which we have all thoroughly enjoyed. This week we found out about what happened after the success at Bannockburn and why The Declaration of Arbroath was sent to the Pope in 1320. We made our own tea stained documents and added the famous quote 'As long as a hundred of us remain alive ... '

We have been practising all week for our Big Sing which has finally arrived. We head up to Glenrothes on Tuesday and are really looking forward to being part of a 300 strong children's choir, as well as getting to meet the creator of all the fantastic songs, Lynn Marsh. If you are able to support us on Tuesday please let the office know as soon as possible as we are still in need of adult helpers for the class.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
