We've had a great week with lots of exciting activities taking place. On Wednesday we had Mr Grew, our Canmore parent, from HSBC visit the class and talk with us about healthy food budgeting. It was really interesting and we learned a lot. ( Mrs Heggie is going to try and be better at food budgeting in 2024 too !! ) And on Thursday we watched an animated version of Tam O'Shanter which was good fun. We couldn't quite understand everything in the poem, but we were able to follow the story and we did recognise lots of Scots words that we use in our own everyday speech. We had a 'nip' of Irn Bru and a taste of shortbread in class in the afternoon. And on Friday our Reconnector continued on the theme of celebrating Burns.

In LIteracy this week the children all performed our class Burns poem, " Up in the Morning Early" to great success. Not all the children are confident public speakers ( yet ),  but they all 'gave it a go' and did really well. I'm so proud of them all. We learned more about Burns in a comprehension passage and listened to some more of his braw poems. In Writing we learned how to correctly set out a formal letter and discussed what appropriate content might be. We then wrote a mock letter to the council, complaining about the state of the roads. We may have some future politicians amongst us.

In Numeracy we started revision work on Time : reading analogue and digital clocks and converting times from one to the other. Next week we will look at 24 hour and durations of time. We will also attempt some 2/3 step word problems.

Our singing practise for next week's Fife Festival of Music is coming on well. We are so fortunate and grateful to have the expert support of Mrs Baxter ( our retired Music Specialist ) which has really helped us and boasted our confidence. We can't wait until next Friday. Don't forget that you are welcome to come along to The Vine Centre to watch our performance.

Our topic work on 'Wallace and Bruce' is proving very exciting. We've learned more about medieval life at the time of the Wars of Independence and discovered just how tough it really was. And we found out that there are documents from the time, held in London, stating just how much Wallace was despised by many of the Englich rulers, which is testiment to how important a figure he was for Scotland, during that time.

Next week is shaping up to be another busy one, with our second hockey taster session on Tuesday, Mrs Mair in on Wednesday for our Bigsing practise and the music festival on Friday.

Enjoy your weekend.
