Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a lovely break. Mr Keane, the cello instructor, visited P5 on Tuesday afternoon and completed a short assessment to see who might be interested in taking up the instrument in school. We also had a visit from Mrs Mair on Wednesday, who is leading us with the YMI Big Sing. She was very impressed with our progress to date, having learned 2 of the songs already !

This week in Literacy we continued our daily writing programme. We are finding it easier to identify sentences now and are able to produce pieces of writing, correctly puncuated. We are ready to move onto our next target: using connectives. Our home reading, term 2 homework grid and next spelling list will be available from next week.

In Numeracy, we completed more complex 2 step addition word problems, using chimney sums to calculate answers. We also revised some of our known timestables ( 2 - 6, 8 & 10 ).

We studied Britain's coastline for topic, finding out about it's wildlife and how it is used by them and by humans too. We also learned a little about coastal erosion and how it effects everyone.

In HWB we looked at keeping ourselves safe out in the community. We watched several short videos and discussed the safest course of action for each senario. We also designed our own Road Safety poster to share throughout the school as we felt that it would be of extra significance at this current time of year, with the dark mornings and evenings.

In P.E. we started a short block on Fitness. We completed the 'Beep Test' which was quite tiring but everyone did extremely well. We will complete it again at the end of the block to see if our fitness has increased. For Art we watched a film clip from 'Coco' to study the skeletons from the 'Day of the Dead' festival as part of our Hallowe'en work. We used layers of coloured sugar paper to create a textured and colourful portrait.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
