Good afternoon

This week we have been celebrating the birthday of Robert Burns in true Scottish fashion. At the start of the week, we were given the opportunity to recite our chosen Scottish poem. Beforehand we discussed what a good poetry recital looks/sounds like and agreed that the speaker must have a clear, loud voice, keep to a good pace when speaking, look at the audience and include actions related to the poem to entertain the audience.  Everyone did an outstanding job at learning their poems and the tricky Scots language which made Miss Yorkston’s decision for only four finalists incredibly difficult. Congratulations to Anna, Heather, Joel and Amber for impressing us all with your recitals. We now eagerly await to see who Mrs. Howie has chosen as our overall class winner and who will have the opportunity to recite their poem during our Burns Day reconnector.

Our Scottish culture and heritage continued to be thoroughly embraced in the Primary 3/4 classroom on Tuesday when we had an early Burns Night Supper which consisted of delicious traditional or vegetarian stovies, oatcakes and a wee taste of Irn Bru.

Finally after completing a comprehension reading task as part of our literacy learning, in which we had to read fact file cards on different birds to find out information on their eating habits, we made delicious fruit and cereal kebabs rings to try and entice more birds to our school garden and field. Then equipped with a checklist, we went outside to participate in this year’s RSPB Big Garden Bird watch. However, despite our efforts to entice smaller birds, it came at no surprise that the most birds in our environment were seagulls! Nonetheless we had a fantastic time bird spotting. If you would like to continue with the Big Garden Bird Watch and record the different types of birds that visit your garden, Miss Yorkston has shared the same checklist on Seesaw and you can record your results on the RSPB’s website Big Garden Birdwatch | The RSPB

Next week we are looking forward to participating in Fife's Festival of Music at the Vine Conference Centre. Thank you to all who volunteered to help us in our journey and please remember that we will meet at school to catch a bus together at 9am on Tuesday morning. If you wish to attend the performance, please make your way to the centre where you can purchase a ticket at the door.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
