What a fantastic first week back!

On Monday, three Primary 6 pupils had arranged fun activities in the hall. We got to play games and even had time to show our fantastic dance moves when we played corners. The PTA and Tesco kindly donated prizes for the event which Georgie and Noah won.

There was a big surprise on Wednesday when a squirrel came to visit our class. Sarina has come to teach us about living things (our new topic). Don’t worry though, we have written to Mrs Howie to check that it is ok for a squirrel to be in school. Luckily, Mrs Howie has said yes. Sarina has already had her first stay with one of the class which she enjoyed immensely. She is hoping to visit everyone so keep your eyes peeled for her arrival. We discussed what we already know about living things and wrote it down on the board. There was a huge amount of information. We have also asked some interesting questions which we hope to answer over the coming weeks.

In Literacy, we started our new class novel ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. Everyone chose one of the horrible farmers from the story to write a description of. There were some super adjectives used. I think Roald Dahl would have been impressed. We visited the garden on Thursday to look for signs of Spring so we can write a poem. We used all our senses when we were in the garden. The class thought of lots of describing words in the notes for our poem too. I’m sure they will be fantastic when they are written next week.

Our focus in Numeracy is still the times tables. We have been using Numicon to help us figure out the answers to the questions. We also learned it was easier and quicker to use the x symbol rather than having to write times! There has definitely been a lot of resilience in learning about times tables and the perseverance definitely is paying off. Please keep practising skip counting in 2s as we will be focusing on the two times table soon and it really helps to already know the number pattern.

In Outdoor learning, we had the chance to plant some strawberry seeds and potatoes this week. We are all very excited about seeing how quickly everything will grow. We will also hopefully be planting peas next week. To help with this if you have any empty toilet paper tubes, please send them into school so we can make growing pods.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
