Good afternoon,

A highlight from this week was our design challenge to make a lighthouse. We decorated a paper cup and then made a working circuit with a switch. We all enjoyed putting the light on top of our lighthouse and turning it on. We learned that inside the small electric candle was the electric circuit we had made but using a smaller battery, wires, light bulb, and switch.

In Literacy we read ‘Sweep’ by Louise Greig. This book is about a boy called Ed who was in a bad mood and his mood got bigger and bigger but eventually his mood changed. We discussed the main part of the story and then we drew a picture and wrote sentences to explain the main part of the story.

In Writing we wrote sentences about a time we have felt angry and how we solved it. Look on Seesaw to see your child’s writing.

In Phonics we have been learning to read and write the 'wh’ sound. On Seesaw you will find a homework activity for the 'wh’ sound. Please complete the 'wh’ page this week in your Phonics homework booklet.

In Numeracy, we have been consolidating our learning from Primary one of adding to 10. We have been using the strategy of counting on. We have also been learning to add 10 to a single digit. We have been using tens frames to help us to add. See seesaw for our Ten Frame activity.

I can’t believe that we are at the end of Term one already! We have had a fantastic term of learning and I am looking forward to Term 2.

I wish you all a happy and relaxing holiday,
Mrs Elvin
