Good Afternoon,
We have all had a great first full week at school. The children have tried hard to listen carefully and to concentrate and persevere on all learning activities. I am very proud of all the children and the positive start to the new term.

We have been starting our day with discovery learning. The children all had the opportunity to make pictures, explore the sand, play maths and literacy games, create with the construction materials, read a book in the class library, use the computers, and take part in role play our house. You can see some pictures of the children taking part in the activities on Seesaw.

This week read the story of The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. We discussed all the different colours and how that colour makes the monster feel.  We discussed our favourite part of the story and drew our favourite colour monster. For writing we also drew a picture and wrote a sentence about a time when we felt one of the feelings, happy, sad, calm, fear, love. We are learning the skills to write a sentence and this term when we are writing we will be concentrating on making sure our sentences have capital letter, full stops, finger spaces, that we use our phonic sound to spell words and that we form our letters correctly.

In phonics we have been consolidating our phonic knowledge from P1 and have been taking part in different games and activities.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to recognise, read, write, sequence and order numbers to 20. We have taking part in variety of number activities including snakes and slides, dot to dot, and number formations. We have started learning to find the number after a given number and we will continue this work next week. The children are very good at counting forward to 20 and beyond. However it would be good to keep practising counting backwards from 20 and work on writing the numbers 11 to 20 the correct way.

Reminder that P2 gym days are Tuesday and Thursday so please send your child to school wearing their outdoor gym kit. We started run club on Tuesday and we will continue this for the term. We will be working together to increase our stamina and flexibility. I was very impressed that the children managed to jog/ walk round the playground twice. They enjoyed the sprinting activities also.

Next week I will start sending out reading books on Wednesday to be returned on a Monday.  I hope you enjoy reading together.

Our ‘P2 Class of 2021-2022’ Seesaw Page is up and running and it is good to see parents have been looking at all the activities. I have sent out today in school bags learning codes to some children who don't seem to be connected. You should be able to access seesaw with your previous learning code if you are having any issues connecting, please email the school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Elvin.
