Happy New Year to you all and welcome to our Winter term. It was nice to see that the children were all happy to see each other again and have settled quickly back into class routines.

The children were very excited to be using our new class calendar and WOW January is filling up fast!  We are looking forward to reciting our Scottish poem, 'Robin Reidbreist' by JK Annand for the Burns/Poetry competition on Monday 21st January.

Following our success in the Nativity show on the Canmore stage, we are thrilled to be performing in the Fife Festival of Music on the Carnegie Hall stage onWednesday 30th January. We are on stage in the 11:20-12:30 session and tickets are available to buy on the day at the Carnegie Box Office. We hope to see lots of mums, dads, grans, grandads and little siblings there.

Our topics this term are Toys, Winter and Handa's Surprise.

Through the topic of Toys we are learning primarily about forces.  Winter is essentially a science topic, learning about how water can change from one form to another and about floating and sinking.  We will also learn how to keep ourselves safe near water and what to do in an emergancy. In Handa's Surprise we will compare our lives to that of children from another country.  We will also have the oppertunity to taste fruits we may not have tried before and learn about healthy food choices and hygenic food handling and preparation.

Inspired by the Burn's Poetry Competition our literacy focus will be to read, write, recite and respond to poems.

In Maths we are continuing to display and interpret information on graphs before a focus on addition.
