Good afternoon,
This week we were continuing our Numeracy topic of subtraction with a mental maths focus of the language of subtraction. The children were learning to understand terms such as; less than, take away from, subtract and the difference between.
In Literacy, we were learning how to increase the length of our writing by adding a second sentence. We had to remember to put a full stop at the end of the first sentence before starting our second sentence. We were also learning the reading skill of sequencing a jumbled word sentence. We transferred our knowledge of sentence structure to help us by finding the word with the capital letter to go at the start and the word with the full stop to go at the end. We worked on listening for the key information and on sharing our ideas in our talking and listening curriculum as we planned our scientific enquiries.
In Health and Well-Being, we were learning to refine our gymnastics skills of travelling, balancing, jumping and rolling on the larger gymnastics equipment. There were 3 different heights of gymnastics tables and the children themselves selected the table to jump from.
Our highlights this week included outdoor learning where we were creating and using obstacle courses on Welly Wednesday. We worked together to extend and improve our obstacles.
Another highlight was helping Discovery Dog and his niece Nora to solve problems through scientific enquiry. This week we had to help answer the questions: ”Are tallest people always the oldest?” and “Do people with longer legs jump higher?”.  The discussions also enabled us to introduce our new Mathematics topic of measure with meaning, relevance and purpose.
I hope you have enjoyed sharing our photographs and videos of our learning on Seesaw with your child. I am sure they had lots of commentary to add to them.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs.Davie and P1a.
