Good afternoon,

Our main focus in reading this week was on blending the first 2 letters of an unknown word to support the sounding out process. We achieved this by blending to a different vowel each day and after a 5 day programme are confident in doing so. On Thursday I added a link to a reading game on Seesaw which will provide the children with the opportunity to practise this skill. They were all very excited to demonstrate their new skill with you at home. Next term the children will be able to transfer this skill into their reading aloud sessions when tackling unknown words in their reading books.
In maths this week we learned to recognise all coins to £2. The added motivation and purpose of needing to pay the correct amount at the Friday Sports Kit Fundraiser was fabulous. The event was so useful in providing the children with a real context to identify the correct coins needed. It was very rewarding to see the children apply the skills taught in class.
The Fundraiser was in no doubt, the highlight of the week and a really enjoyable way to celebrate the end of term and beginning of the Easter break. I wish you all a very happy holidays and lovely Easter.

Best wishes
Mrs.Davie and P1a.
