Good afternoon,

At the beginning of the week we added the finishing touches to our fruit and vegetable shop role-play area. After our Digital Technology lesson about`logos` and a logo competition won by Luke, our shop was named `The Veg and Fruit Shop` with a colourful `V and F` logo. A till, carrier bags, an open and closed sign, some money and opening times sign were added and the shop was opened for business!
Our shop has proven a motivating context for maths with the children learning how to add up coins and next week will be the motivation for learning to select the correct coins for paying for goods of various totals.

On Monday we learned the sound made when w and h go together and we learned to read and spell the common words `when` and `what`. Next week we will consolidate the sounds: ch, sh, th and wh. The children also learned to read and spell the common word `like` and they used it in their writing lesson where they wrote a sentence telling their favourite fruit or vegetable. To support` sounding out ` words,  the children are also continuing to learn to blend the first 2 letters in a cvc word before adding the final sound.

In Health and Well-being we are becoming aware of the jobs of people in our community. We learned about the role of a vet, a doctor, a builder, a chef, a fire-fighter and a police officer. We would love to arrange a visit from people in these and similar professions in supporting our `People Who Help Us` mini-topic. Please get in touch if you, a family member or a friend can support us with this.
We also continued our block of Gymnastics this week, learning how to perform a forward roll and add it to a simple gymnastics sequence.

Next week is Book Week.  World Book Day is on the Thursday and the children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas. Thursday 2.15- 2.45pm is also our second Sharing the Learning opportunity of the term. We are looking forward to welcoming you in to class again where you can participate in a World Book Day activity with your child. As we will be participating in many live author events next week, including Friday afternoon, Outdoor Learning will be postponed until the following Friday. Children should therefore, come to school in their uniform rather than outdoor clothes that day.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.
