Good afternoon,

On Monday morning we learned about our 10th common garden bird, the Blue-Tit and everyone added it to their non-fiction book, `My First Book Of Birds`. The children have been so motivated to learn to write and they are very proud of their completed bird books.
With identification books completed and the ability to recognise the 10 most common garden birds, the children confidently took part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. We are eagerly awaiting publication of the overall findings drawn by RSPB.

In Literacy we also learned the sound made when s and h go together, sh and learned to read the common word `she` as well as the words `push and pushed` needed for our reading books.

In Numeracy we practised the strategy of `tapping` when adding. This strategy is often a more successful one than using fingers to count. I hope you found Lotties demonstration useful on Seesaw. This week we were adding 2 and 3 numbers together. When adding numbers together, we took care to start with the biggest number first. Moreover when adding 3 numbers together we also took care to score out each number so we could keep track of what we had added.

Gymnastics is our new PE context for learning. The children were exploring different ways to `travel` and learned how to perform a safe jump. Once practised, we performed a sequence of travel and jump on the gymnastics equipment. Please ensure that longer hair is tied back securely on PE days to prevent hair getting caught.

Teds eating of the sand in our sandpit on Wednesday stimulated learning about what we should and should not put in our mouths and about what substances may be harmful. We were pleased to hear that Ted was feeling better after some medicine and this prompted us to learn about medicine safety. When a `well` Ted returned to school on Friday he was very excited to tell us all about his lovely new vet and we all learned about the job of a vet.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs. Davie, P1 and a much better Ted!
