Good afternoon,
This week was Mental Health Week and we began the week by becoming aware of Mental Health and how, just like learning how to look after our Physical Health, we should learn how to look after our Mental Health..
Each day this week we undertook activities for promoting positive Mental Health.
On Monday we learned that moving your body isn’t just good for your body, it is good for your mind too. We engaged in a Joe Wicks workout for children. I hope you enjoyed seeing our efforts on Seesaw.
On Tuesday we became aware of how mindfulness can support your Mental Health . We learned that being mindful can involve stopping what you are doing and seeing how you are feeling. To help us relax we took part in guided meditation. The children related well to the concept of `melting` and asked me to put the link on Seesaw so they can engage again at home. We then thought about someone we loved and how it feels to be with them, something we found challenging that day and how it made us feel and finally about our favourite place and how it feels to be there.
On Wednesday we learned that connecting with others can help us to feel like we belong and can increase our self-esteem and self-confidence. We spent a lovely afternoon playing board games with our P7 Buddies.
On Thursday we became aware that learning new things can help your mind and it is good for your mental wellbeing. Learning tongue twisters in the afternoon was a fun challenge.
Finally, on Friday we learned that being kind to others can help us to feel good and happy. We shared lots of ways to show kindness and tried hard to show kindness all day by: saying please and thank you, smiling, saying good morning and good afternoon and helping others.
The children became really engaged in talking about Mental Health and in learning about ways to look after it this week. Going forwards we will continue to talk about and participate in activities to support our Mental Health as much as our Physical Health.
Other highlights this week included welcoming an Early Years student, Chelsea Allan to our class and sharing our learning with many of you on Tuesday morning.
Next week the children are being given the opportunity to share the Fife Festival Of Music pieces with each other. The whole school will come together in the hall in the afternoon of Tuesday 13th February because of this, P1 will not be taking part in PE that afternoon so should come to school in their full school uniform. We are all very excited to have the opportunity to perform again and to see our older friends and Buddies perform too.
Looking forward to the next full week of school, week beginning, Mon 19th Feb, Outdoor Learning will be brought forward from the Friday that week to the Monday19th. This is to allow us to take part in the RSPB Big School Birdwatch and submit our findings. Children therefore should come to school on that Monday in their Outdoor Learning clothes and in full school uniform on the Friday. Thank you for your support.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs. Davie, P1 and Ted.
