Good afternoon,

This week in maths we completed our unit on recognising and ordering coins. With a new month falling during the week, we also practised reciting the Months Of The Year and recorded February events on our new calendar page.

In literacy we learned to read and spell the common words: he, me, we and be. Having been taught all 26 letters of the alphabet, we also participated in activities to write the missing first sound of cvc words. The children are developing confidence in reading and this week they expressed their own likes and dislikes, relating to the actions of the characters in their reading books. In writing lessons, the children continued to develop knowledge of sentence structure as they created another 2 pages of their `First Book Of Birds` book.

The children are thoroughly engaged in learning to recognise birds in preperation for the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch which we are taking part in on Monday 12th February. The children are now confident in recognising the Herring Gull, Black-Headed Gull, Woodpigeon, Robin, Magpie, Blackbird and Crow. The bird hide was a big attraction today as the children used their homemade telescopes to practise birdwatching.

Of couse the highlight of the week was performing at the Fife Festival Of Music. The children were wonderful and it was lovely that so many of you made it along to support them.

Have a lovely weekend
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.
