Good afternoon,
Carrying out our weekly Monday morning ritual of checking the class calendar, we noticed two exciting things to look forward to.

Firstly, we were looking forward to welcoming Mr.Grew from HSBC, to talk to us about money.  We decided that we should learn a little about money before his visit. Firstly we developed awareness of why we need money, how we `get` money, what money looks like and how we pay for things. Then we started to look more closely at coins. We learned that coins have different values and begun to learn to recognise each coin. This week we took a closer look at 1p. 2p, 5p and 10p .
Next week we will look more closely at 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 and becoming more confident in ordering coins by their increasing value.

Secondly, we were looking forward to Canmore`s Scottish Themed Day on Thursday. Every child in class on Wednesday recited the class poem, `Robin Reidbriest`, word perfect! The finalists then recited their poems again to Mrs. McIntosh on Thursday and to the school during todays Scottish Reconnector. Thank you so much to our adults at home for the support and encouragement. Everyone really did an excellent job!

On Scottish Day, many of us wore a `touch of tartan` and in class we learned all about tartan and designed our own tartan as we entered a `tartan blanket for Ted `competition. Lots of future designers emerged that morning!

The children also learned about famous Scottish people and after looking closely at and discussing the work of artist, Steven Brown`, we had a go at creating our own art pieces in his style. The classroom has never looked brighter!

In the afternoon we learned about `Scottish Food`. We learned that oats grow very well in Scotland and enjoyed tasting oatcakes with Scottish produced jam and honey!

Have a lovely weekend
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.
