Good afternoon,
This week has been jam packed full of highlights and it is very difficult to choose just a few to share with you!
Monday was a day of excitement as the children returned to school after a very snowy weekend, full of stories to share about their outdoor adventures! We read lots of snow themed stories and were able to relate our experiences to those of the characters.
With the temperature continuing to drop and being a keen talking point, the children have been recording the outdoor temperature on a large interactive thermometer in the classroom. Falling below zero degrees most mornings, the children have been able to share their observations of what this feels like and looks like. It has also been a relevant time to learn about changing matter- a liquid changing to a solid, as the water in the puddles has been turning to ice.  The story of `Charlie Crow In The Snow`, made us think about the difficulties of birds in the winter as Charlies drinking pond had turned to ice. Being the caring and responsible class that they are, the children asked if we could make sure our school birds have water to drink and we have begun to put water in the school garden each day, along with bird feeders which we also made for the school fayre. Keeping safe around ice became the focus of our Health and wellbeing lessons this week as the children became aware of the dangers of frozen ponds and other bodies of water.
We have read lots of other seasonal stories this week as we enjoy our class Book Advent Calendar. Each day a different child gets a turn to open a door and reveal a little book which we read together before taking  home at the end of the school day. As well as providing lots of literacy opportunities, it has also provided  a purpose to learn ordinal numbers. We are becoming more confident in using the words: first, second, third etc, especially as we try hard to recall, in order, all of the children who have opened a little door, to date.
Trying on our Nativity costumes has been another highlight this week and the excitement of sharing our performance with you on Thursday 14th December( with a 9,30am start), is building!
The Canmore Christmas Fayre was the perfect way to round off the week and we hope that you all had as wonderful a time as we did and that we have helped you feel that little bit more Christmasy!
Have a lovely festive weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.
