Good afternoon,

With our beautiful `Remembrance Poppy Field` artwork dry after the weekend, we displayed it in our area on Monday. The children are very proud of their pieces and will take them home in a few weeks.
As well as Remembrance Day on Sunday, Diwali the Hindu festival of light was celebrated and on Monday we became aware of how this festival is celebrated. The children engaged in colouring Mendhi and Rangoli patterns.

One of our highlights this week was welcoming some  P7 children to be the Narrators of our Nativity, `Present For The Baby`, which is to be performed to you on Thursday 14th December at 9.30am.  We loved working with the older children and are looking forward to practising with them over the next few weeks.

The Nativity practises have continued to provide a relevant and meaningful context to explore the Early Level experiences and outcomes of our Health and Well-being curriculum around babies. This week we identified the similarities and differences in the male and female body, learning to name the body parts. We also became aware of the stages of growing up using the words: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult and elderly.

In maths this week we have been learning how to carry out addition sums. We have been using our Numicon pieces to support. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of our adding on Seesaw this week.

In literacy we have learned to recognise the sounds: h, c, k and e and read and write the words; his and can. We have also been learning the names of the main characters of our reading books with the focus this week, on Kipper`s  brother and sister , Chip and Biff. The upcoming Canmore Christmas Fayre on Friday 8th Dec provided the `hook` for learning how to write a list as we recorded our ideas of thing to sell. We learned that a list should have a title and be created in a downward fashion. We will continue to develop list writing throughout the Christmas Fayre planning period.

In our `Autumn` topic we developed our understanding of how living things depend on each other as we explored animal migration, birds in particular. We also discussed ways we can support the birds who stay behind.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.

Please be advised that reading books and library books can only be issued once the previous ones have been returned. Unless a holiday, return dates are the same each week. Reading books are to be returned on a Monday and library books on a Tuesday. Of course if finished with, library books can be returned on Monday also. Thank you for your support.
