Good afternoon,

What an exciting week, Halloween on Tuesday and then Bonfire Night this Sunday! The children have certainly been very excited and this wonderful  energy and enthusiasm was channelled into creative pieces of work which clearly became the highlights of the week.  In PE we added dance moves to the verses of the song, `The Spooky Spooky Conga` working in groups to perform a verse each. However, I think the conga chorus was still the favourite part of the dance!  Then in Art we learned the skill of wax resist where we painted a black wash over our crayon drawn fireworks to create magical Bonfire Night pictures. The children were bewitched with the magic of wax resist.

In Literacy this week, we learned the next 3 sounds; n, i and p and practised last weeks 3 sounds; s, a and t. We were also introduced to simple phonetic words that the children can read and write with the 6 letters taught: at, an, as, it, in, is, its and I. Next week is `Consolidation Week` where letters not retained will be revisited or in the case of children who have retained all 6 sounds, reading the 2 letter phonetic words will be the focus.

In Numeracy, we learned all about numbers 4 and 5. Learning included  counting pictures accurately and recording amounts,  forming the numerals correctly,  identifying odd or even,  recognising their numicon representation,  discussing position in the number line in terms of `after, before and in between` and  representing the amounts as tally marks.

In Health and Well-Being this week, learning has been driven by the contexts of Halloween and Bonfire Night. On Tuesday, the children were becoming more aware of road safety rules and about wearing bright clothing to be seen in the dark and today the children were learning about how to stay safe near bonfires and fireworks. The children were keen to share their learning with our school community so our big writing lesson this week focused upon creating posters to inform.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Ted.
