Good afternoon,

It was wonderful to welcome our youngest children on Wednesday morning. Everyone looked so smart in their new school uniforms and shiny shoes. I hope they looked almost as smart when they left at 3 o'clock! Although it is very hard to stay just as smart with all of the exploring to be done: sand and water to pour and fill, cars to race, art materials to be glued and painted, pictures to colour, house corners to cook and entertain in, building areas to be constructed, a playground to run around in and not forgetting a lunch to eat!

As well as learning through play this week, the children also learned through stories. We listened to `The Colour Monster` where we met a monster whose body changes colour with each emotion. We learned that although our bodies dont change colour when they have emotions, our bodies still react to our emotions. We looked at photographs of people and indentified the emotion they were feeling by the way their bodies looked.

We also sang Nursery Rhymes and read Fairy Tales, learning to listen and concentrate. A favourite game was when Mrs. Davie said a wrong word in the Nursery Rhyme and we had to listen carefully to identify it. This is one of the games outlined in the First Steps In Learning booklet which went home with the children on Thursday along with the QR code and instructions to enable you to upload and share photographs and videos of homework onto our Seesaw platform. I hope you enjoy playing some of the games with your child at home over the next few weeks and I look forward to seeing some of them on Seesaw.

A highlight this week has been spending time with our P7 buddies. The buddies have been collecting the children for break and lunch where they have been supporting them in learning the routines, modelling good behaviour, facilitating playing happily and making friends. They will continue to support with these routines next week.

Our timetable will also start next week.
P.E will be taught on a Tuesday and a Wednesday.  To allow for maximum learning time, the children in Canmore come to school wearing their PE kits on these days . Dark joggers/shorts, a white t-shirt and a pair of trainers make up the PE kit . In term 1 we focus upon Playground Games and weather permitting, we will play these games in the playground where it is hoped they will also play with each other during break times. A pair of black plimsoles/gym shoes (with your childs name clearly printed in each shoe)  should be kept in their classroom trays to be changed into if PE must be taught in the gym hall instead, due to wet weather.
Outdoor Learning takes place on a Friday. Weather permitting, we will spend time in our schools outdoor areas on a Friday afternoon . During this time the children may be gardening, making dens, playing among the trees in the wooded area, making obstacle courses  etc. It is recommended that children do not wear school uniform but  `old/play clothes` instead on that day.

Thank you for your support. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs.Davie and P1.
