Good afternoon,
With the temperature soaring over the weekend, the children loved sharing all of the fun things they like to do in the sunshine. We also discussed the benefits of getting outdoors in the sunshine and the children learned about vitamin D and how it helps to develop strong bones. In association with the "Wrap, Splat, Hat" campaign, we also learned how to stay safe whilst enjoying the sun.
The children shared what they had learned with the other children in the school by making sun safety posters and displaying them all around the school. We hope everyone can stay safe in the sun and have a wonderful time.

The children always love looking at our class calendar in the mornings, checking for important activities, events or birthdays. They especially love counting down the end of one month and the start of another, so on Thursday this week they were thrilled to welcome June . It was made even more special by being the first month of Summer. Once again we discussed what the month of June will look like and the children illustrated their own June calendar page. We also recorded lots of activities we can forward to in June. I hope you enjoyed seeing these on your childs calendar page when they took it home.

Wednesday was National Smile Day and we revisited,`How to Look After Your Teeth`, in order to make sure we can keep our beautiful smiles. The children also took home a new toothbrush and toothpaste to enjoy.

This week we were gifted a big box of 3D shapes to play with. This provided a playful approach to learning about 3D shapes. We learned to recognise the cone, cube, cuboid, cylinder and sphere. We also learned about their properties and are beginning to use mathematical vocabulary when describing the shapes. To conclude this topic we went on a Walkabout around the Pitcorthie estate looking for these shapes in the environment. Thank you again to the parents and grandparents who came along to support this walk. We are very grateful. Such outings can only be offered to the children because of your support.

Our STEAM topic has been popular with the class again this week as we worked on solving a problem from Humpty Dumpty. The children planned, created, tested and evaluated their ideas for stopping Humpty Dumpty cracking when he falls off the wall. Ideas ranged from soft landing furniture to crack- proof padded outfits. One of the groups even came up with the idea of filling a large container of water for Humpty to fall into. Very impressive!

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, Biscuit and P1.
