Good afternoon and welcome to Term 4,

What a beautiful, bright and sunny week it has been to welcome us back to school and to the new school term. The children were clearly happy to be reunited with their classmates and have been enjoying sharing stories of Easter Egg Hunts and days out. I hope you too had a lovely Easter break.

On Monday, as part of our Social Studies curriculum, the children were learning about journeys and about ways to travel, as Biscuit shared his holiday diary `Journey Around the World`. The children were introduced to the Globe as we followed Biscuit and Jeremy`s travels.

Biscuit also shared his Easter gift of The Bible and we have been enjoying reading some stories about Jesus and the miracles he performed as part of our Religious Education curriculum.

We started this week of maths by revising the strategies of addition and subtraction as we completed a mixture of written sums. The children had to look closely at the symbol in each sum to identify whether they were to carry out an addition or subtraction operation and then recall which strategies should be used. The second part of the week focused upon word problems where the children had to work out whether the problem required them to carry out an addition or a subtraction operation. We focused upon keywords in the problems to support our decision-making.
Next week, those children who recognise the 1p, 2p and 5p coins will go on to use their addition skills to add money and pay for items as we introduce a class shop.

In literacy the children learned the sound made when the letters o and u go together to make the ou sound and learned to read and spell the common words: out, about and house. We also learned to read and spell the common word `don`t `. As well as practising early reading strategies to support our reading aloud, we were also learning to answer inferential questions. We had to look for clues in the pictures and in the stories for clues to help us.

We have now started a block of Games in P E. This week the children were learning to roll a ball. After learning how to roll and stop a ball effectively between themselves and a partner, the children participated in games of dodge ball. They thoroughly enjoyed their games and developed lots of other games skills at the same time.

Our timetable for P.E and Outdoor Learning remains the same as it was last term.
P.E is on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come into school wearing P.E kit on these days. ( white T-shirt, Black bottoms ). Gym shoes will remain in trays to change into, when P.E is indoors.
Outdoor Learning is on a Friday. Children should come into school wearing `old/ play` clothes with wellies and waterproofs in a carrier/additional bag.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Biscuit.
