Good afternoon,
We carried on from last weeks maths lessons about halving objects and shapes to learning about symmetry. We learned that to be symmetrical, a picture/shape/object must be exactly the same on both sides. It was fun trying to complete pictures to make them symmetrical. Outdoor learning this week gave us an opportunity to learn about symmetry in the environment and we were able to recognise lots of symmetry around our school. We also learned to half amounts. To half amounts we used sharing. Many of us are now able to mentally recall ½ of numbers up to 10.

In reading this week we practised blending the sounds together rather than sounding out the word in individual letters. This is making for more fluent reading and in turn is aiding comprehension. We also learned the oo sound made by u in words such as `put`, `push` and `pull` and got the chance to put our phonics learning into practice as we read this `oo`/ `u` sound  in our reading books.

In Health and Well-being we started our block of gymnastics. This week we explored a variety of ways of travelling on the floor before transferring onto the gymnastic benches. We also learned how to jump and land safely by bending our knees. We practised jumping from 2 feet to 2 feet and from 2 feet to 1 foot and 1 foot from 2 feet. We also transferred this learning onto the benches and began to perform a simple gymnastics sequence of `start signal- travel- jump- end signal`. Next week we will learn how to perform simple balances and will incorporate balances into our gymnastics sequences on gymnastics tables.

In topic we are continuing to learn about people who help us and learned about the role of the fire fighter.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Biscuit.
