Dear adults,

Highlights this week included arriving in the Daily Mile Destination of Egypt. The children are continuing to learn how to use a search engine and keywords to find information using digital technology so this week we found out about Egypt.

Another highlight was learning how to count to 10 in Spanish. We have been introduced to the Spanish for each number as we learn about that number in numeracy time and as we learned about number 10 this week  we also learned the Spanish word for 10. I hope you enjoyed hearing us counting on Seesaw.

On St.Andrew's Day we learned a little about Andrew and how he used to be a fisherman but left his job to become one of Jesus`s disciples instead. It was lovely to see touches of tartan around the class.

Rather than learning to recognise new letters and read new words this week, we consolidated the sounds :s,a,t,n,i,p,c,k,h,r,m,e, d and the words taught so far. It was a great opportunity to enable those children who had not picked up the sounds to have more focused time to do so and for those children who did remember the sounds to have time to become more fluent at reading the words taught. Next week we will learn the new sounds: g,o and u and the new words : get, got, not and mum. Phonics will be taught on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In mental maths we have been adding 0, 1 and 2 to numbers within 10. Next week we have a strong motivation, purpose and relevance to recognise coins in our maths lessons, as it is the school fayre on Friday and many of us will be bringing coins to school to buy items. To support your child, it would be helpful to draw your childs attention to any coins you are using during the week. By the end of next week most children should be able to recognise and name the coins up to  £2.

The biggest highlight this week was making a Gonk tree decoration each to decorate our class Christmas tree. The tree is certainly looking very colourful now and the children are looking forward to taking them home to decorate  their own Christmas trees soon.

Enjoy the first weekend of December,
  Best wishes,
  Mrs.Davie, P1 and Biscuit.
