Good afternoon,

In STEAM this week we received a letter from Poppy Pig asking us to make her a strong house which could withstand the huffing and puffing of the Big Bad Wolf.  The children worked collaboratively to try and help Poppy. Before sending the houses to Poppy, we had to test them out for their strength . In the absence of a Big Bad Wolf, we used a hairdryer to provide the suitable amount of air. Many of our constructions passed the test and were sent to Poppy. We hope she is feeling safe in her new home.
Another highlight this week was learning about halves. After sharing `The Runaway Pizza' story, we discussed our own favourite pizza toppings and then wanted to show this by decorating a paper circle pizza. As there were only 12 paper circles we had to share with a partner and from here our learning about halves began. We went on to halving lots of paper shapes, looking at halving in real-life, learning the notation of 1/2 and recognising and explaining which objects and pictures were halved or not halved. Next week we will progress onto halving numbers.
We are continuing to develop fluency in reading by increasing our sight vocabulary/common word recognition. This week, as you will have seen on Seesaw, the children were introduced to a new game which involved hiding an object under 1 of 4 upturned paper cups labelled with a common word. The children worked with a partner to hide and to guess which common word cup was hiding the object. The children said that this was their favourite common word game, so far.
Have a lovely long weekend!
