It feels like it’s been a while since we last caught up and it’s great to be able to share our news with you once again. This week we have settled back in well to our weekly routines with a strong focus on reading comprehension, numeracy skills but also with some super news to share with everyone too.

In numeracy, we have started a series of lessons on Time and in literacy we have been working hard on our reading comprehension skills. Our class novel ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’ is also continuing well and the class have just finished Chapter 12 in the novel which was all about the characters getting prepared to perform a drama. And in that vein, the children were very excited and enthusiastic to begin when we started discussing our own end-of-year show. Preparations are at the very earliest of stages at the moment and auditions were held earlier today. Please keep an eye out on Seesaw over the coming weeks for more news on roles, songs and scripts.

We were delighted to announce that P7 WON Aero Space Kinross’ Grand Prize in the Primary Air Race Challenge. We are looking forward to welcoming the organisers to the school next week to present the trophy, provide the pupils with their Young Stem Leader Awards (achieved through the completion of this project) and share details of the top prize. There has been lots of speculation about the prize on offer but due to the size of the cohort and our location there are still some details to finalise. We will share this news with you as soon as we can. What we do know for certain is that the P7 cohort will be playing an escape room with the Challenger Center in Maine, USA.  This is part of their destination moon programme. On Tuesday, we also joined in a MS Teams meet with astronaut Tim Peake for a question and answer session as part of Mars Day. It was fascinating to hear all about what life was like in space for him and about all of the experiments carried out on the International Space Station.

It was lovely to recently welcome Phil Thompson from Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre back to Canmore to share information on our upcoming residential visit in April. Medical Information Request forms were issued earlier this week and if your child is intending to go to Ardroy, please can any outstanding forms be returned as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Olivia Beal who was judged in first place and club winner of this year’s Dunfermline Rotary Club Young Photographer competition with a wonderfully artistic photograph of the new St. James Centre in Edinburgh. Charlotte Wright also received a Highly Commended award for her photography and Rachel Collin was awarded second in her category for the Young Writer competition. Our whole P7 cohort did very well across all of the competitions.

Finally, congratulations to Aaron Bayne who is this week’s social target winner.

I hope that you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. I will catch-up with you all again next Friday.  I also look forward to catching up with many of you in person next week at the first of our parent contact meetings.

Mr. Morgan.
