Welcome to our regular Friday update.  We’ve had a week full of learning, song and smiles with some of the children being a little star-struck thrown in for good measure!

The highlight of the week for many in class was the visit of Dunfermline Athletics’ Tackle Health Team. Along with three of the first team players, their team spent the afternoon on Thursday with the P7 cohort discussing the importance of healthy diet and healthy exercise as well as members of the coaching team taking the class through some training exercises. Striker, Kevin O’Hara and Goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet were in class to provide an insight into how they prepare for games and how they keep themselves healthy and performing at the best level of fitness they can. It was great to see and hear the surprise from the children at just how hard they work and how seriously they take health matters. Thank you to the whole Tackle Health team for their visit.

Another highlight was our visit to the Vine Centre on Wednesday to perform at the Fife Festival of Music. Both P7 classes performed fantastically well. They looked super in their uniforms and smiled as they sang their songs from The Lion King and The Jungle Book. The adjudicator commented just how happy they had made him and the audience feel with their performance and their energy. Very well done everyone!

In topic this week we looked at the Homefront and the roles of Women in the War. We also looked at some of the early major battles and some of the key aircraft from the war.

In literacy this week we have started reading a novel based during WW2 - Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian. Reading skills will be an area of focus this throughout the whole of this term as pupils learn to improve their comprehension and their technique answering questions on a text. We will also compare the novel to the movie as we continue reading the novel.

Miss Wiggins has started teaching the children some creative dance techniques and dances. On Thursday we started with The Twist followed with a few of John Travolta’s iconic disco moves from Saturday Night Fever as we learn a medley of ‘Dance Through the Decades’ moves. We will return to this next week to add a few more.

Next week we have pupils attending the Rotary Club quiz night, a football tournament and another performance at the Fife Festival of Music. Good luck to all of those attending these events.

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
