Good afternoon and welcome to our regular Friday catch-up about our week at school which had a decidedly Scottish thread running through it – we even managed to do a little artwork about a Scottish icon – the Tunnock’s Teacake!.

All pupils recited a Burns poem that they have been learning in class earlier this week. Congratulations to those who have made it through to perform to Mrs Howie and Mrs Ewing but I must say a huge well done to everyone who gathered the courage to recite in front of their classmates.

Today, the 27th, is Holocaust Memorial Day and throughout this week in our topic we have been learning about the mistreatment of Jewish people and others during World War II. The children have been very respectful when learning about the Holocaust. Please ask them about their learning as they may have questions.

In numeracy this week we have been continuing our learning on fractions, conversion to decimal fractions and we are starting to discuss converting to percentages.

In literacy, we have been looking at how to create sequential instructions using clear and precise language. On Thursday the children wrote instructions on how to dance to The Dashing White Sergeant. This was quite challenging as they had to think very carefully about step counts, directions to turn and describing foot and hand movements.

This was a great prelude for our visit today to The Scottish Country Dance Festival which was held at Dunfermline High School. The whole P7 cohort represented Canmore superbly well and danced the morning away by dancing to the Dashing White Sergeant and the Gay Gordons. They all looked so co-ordinated both in their dance steps as well as their smart appearance, complete with tartan sashes. Please look out on Seesaw for some photos of their performances. Thank you to the parent helpers who helped walk the children to and from DHS – your support is greatly appreciated.

Next week we have two exciting events planned for Wednesday. In the morning, we are singing at the Fife Festival of Music in the Vine Centre, which is followed in the afternoon by a visit from the Pars Foundation Education Team who will be in school to help the children learn about the importance of healthy diet and exercise.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and that you manage to get some family time together as well as some rest ahead of another busy week next week full of learning.

Mr. Morgan.
