Welcome to our regular Friday update. Another shorter than normal week but another one full of learning.

The Scottish Country Dance Festival is a week today at Dunfermline High School and this week in gym we have been continuing to work on our dancing skills. We have been dancing to the Dashing White Sergeant and each session we are getting better and better. We will continue to work on this dance and The Gay Gordons next week. Gym kit is not required to be worn next week on Wednesday and Thursday as we prepare our presentation too. Full school uniform will be required next Friday for the event.

Much of our work this week has been linked to our World War project work. We have been studying the Blitz and what the public had to do in an air raid. The role of an Air Raid Wardens was looked at too. On Thursday we looked at the cause of WWII and listened to the radio speech by Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who shared the news that everyone was dreading that “This country is at war with Germany.

As next Friday (27th) is Holocaust Memorial Day, throughout next week we will be looking at what the Holocaust was and the impact this has had on the world. Please be reassured that this subject matter will be handled as sensitively as we can given the nature of the subject. I mention this so that you are aware ahead of next week’s learning.

In numeracy, we have been working on fractions – how to identify simple fractions, improper fractions as well as how to make equivalent fractions and simplify fractions. We will continue working on this next week as we move towards converting fractions to decimal fractions and then percentages. Everyone is feeling much more confident this week.

I hope that you all have a relaxing and restful weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
