One week closer to Christmas!

And all things Christmas was very much the theme for the week as we were very busy getting ready for today’s Christmas Fayre. The children were excited to sell their wreaths, jars and support the younger children in the school and were very proud of their efforts.  All of the P7 stalls were looking just super and for those that were able to attend today, I hope that you were proud of your children too. Christmas at Canmore is always very well supported by our parents and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for that support.

In literacy this week, we looked at how our recent work on persuasive language could be applied to our Christmas enterprise activities. We discussed how to advertise products and how we could use language to persuade the customer in a short time period such as for a radio advert.

In numeracy, we recapped on the properties of shapes and then started to look at the use of nets. We linked nets to how gift boxes and tree decorations are made.

In RME, the class discussed the meaning of Advent and created their own Advent calendar. Not a chocolate in sight but instead each Advent day was used to promote, fitness, Art, how they can help at home or wellbeing activities – lots of good ideas!

For our topic, we studied what trench warfare in WW1 looked like and why fighting from a trench was necessary to keep soldiers safe. The conditions that the soldiers had to live and fight in were truly awful.  The class also started to learn about evacuee children at the start of WW2, how they had to quickly leave home and family in the city and move to the countryside for safety. Learning about how few personal belongings they were able to take with them came as a bit of a shock to the children. We will continue with more learning in this area next week.

Congratulations and a very big well done to all of the children who represented Canmore with their musical talents. The highlights this week included our pupils who receive brass tuition performing at Dunfermline High School and our and choir singing at Sky on Thursday.. Mrs Baxter, Mrs Dowell and the staff here at Canmore were very proud of each and every one of them.

Finally, it was lovely to see so many Christmas jumpers being worn today. Reds, greens, Santa, snowmen, reindeers, elves were just everywhere you looked. It really made the whole day fun!

I thought it might be helpful to include some dates for your diaries next week::
Weds 14th December School Christmas lunch
Thurs 15th Dec P7 Whole Cohort Christmas Party - pupils to come dressed in party clothes
Thursday (pm)Class Online Panto viewing of Jack and the Beanstalk
Friday 16th Secret Santa Exchange & End of term treat House Winner (to be announced)

I hope that you all have a wonderful, relaxing and restful weekend and I will catch-up with you again next Friday.

Best wishes,
Mr. Morgan.
